Bulgaria; Sunny Beach

Welcome back my lovely people, how long it has been!

I hope you’re all well & have had a lovely Summer, which is sadly almost over ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Today I’m back with a post all about Sunny Beach, Bulgaria, a major seaside resort on the Black Sea. I did a whole load of research before booking our holiday because I wanted somewhere nice but not too expensive (story of my life).

Dan & I stayed at the Iberostar Sunny Beach Hotel on an All Inclusive board –ย allllll the food.ย We actually booked the ‘Premier’ package, so we had access to multiple bars & restaurants… which was glorious of course. Massive shout out to Thomas Cookย who were fabulous from the beginning to end of our holiday!

This is actually the back entrance to the hotel – we tended to use this most of the time as the beach was about 100m from here… & where else would you want to go!? The hotel itself had two receptions, A and B, which made check in & talking to anyone at reception a lot quicker and easier! There were also restaurants on both sides, with the extra ‘premier’ one in the middle… safe to say there was definitely enough space for everyone!

Now, the top thing everyone wants to know about any hotel… we couldย always get a sunbed. There were a few mornings I would go down about 9:30 am before brekkie to pop our towels on sun beds in good spots! But you could always get a sunbed somewhere around the pools.

To be quite honest I did not know what to expect in going to Bulgaria, I have never really ventured outside the real tourist places on holiday, eg. the whole of spain (lol). ย So this was a new venture for me, however as Sunny Beach has become such a tourist hotspot, especially with the wild night life… it wasn’t far off what I’d experienced before. Obviously this is not the case for the whole of Bulgaria, just Sunny Beach as it is pretty commercialised… beautiful… but commercialised. In relation to the amount of stores selling all the fake things –ย which I do enjoy a good mooch round,ย the pop up ‘climb this ladder & win 200 levs’ stalls, and the constant ‘come to my club… free shots & drinks for all!’. (the latter got slightly interesting when we told them our money had been stolen).

I can not fault the gloriousness of the sea & sand!! Where the land comes to an end right at the top of the above image is where we went snorkelling. This was amazing, we went on a VIP Catamaran Cruise which took us from the local town Nessebar, through the seas to see dolphins to this little cove off Sunny Beach where we could snorkel and see all the fish. The water was so clear and undisturbed… and not evenย thatย cold, which is a bonus for me! After our time at sea we hopped back on the boat for a buffet lunch and a slow sail back to the harbour.

I would definitely recommend visiting Nessebar Old Town if you are ever in Bulgaria, such a cute little town which oozes historical value and is one of the most prominent seaports on the Black Sea. From Sunny Beach it cost 2,60 levs for two people by bus one way, which is about ยฃ1.20 ish – bargain! Watch your bags, this is where we stupidly got our money stolen. ย I say visit the old town, as post 1925 a new town was built called Nessebar, which you will go through first on the bus, you then get to the restored Old Town, right on the tip, now a popular Bulgarian seaside resort.

This is the site you see when you are dropped at the Bus stop, its like walking into a whole new little bubble! It only takes 15 mins to walk to either side of the Island & its so worth doing the full trip round. We didn’t stop to eat there, but I had eyed up some really cute places with the nicest sea views!

I really can not fault the service at the hotel, everywhere was spotless & other than our money being taken I can not fault Bulgaria! I would love to go back one day. Although right now I would love to go anywhere but home & work, got some serious holiday blues going on!

Until next time,

Fran X
